Russia proposes that the U.S. remove all restrictions on the work of embassies and consulates general

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement about Russia’s proposal to the U.S. to lift all restrictions on the operation of embassies and consulates general, “which have been imposed by both sides over the past few years.

On the Russian side, it was stressed that hostile anti-Russian actions will not go unanswered, but that Moscow does not seek further escalation.it said in a statement

Earlier, in April 2021, Russia and the U.S. expelled ten diplomats each amid new sanctions. The U.S. and Russian ambassadors were recalled to their respective countries for consultations. Moscow later announced a ban on hiring foreigners to work in the U.S. diplomatic mission. It later became known that the ban was postponed.

In May, the U.S. closed its Consulate General in Yekaterinburg. Also in May, the U.S. Embassy in Russia announced that it had stopped processing applications for all non-immigrant visas, except for diplomatic and emergency cases.

The return of the ambassadors to Moscow and Washington was announced in June. According to Blinken, as of Aug. 1, the U.S. was forced to completely discontinue its consular services in Russia because of layoffs.
