Two new criminal cases were opened against Sergei Furgal

Two new criminal cases were opened against the former governor of Khabarovsk Krai, Sergei Furgal, on charges of organizing a criminal association and fraud.

According to Anton Furgal, Sergei’s son, the first interrogation in the new cases is scheduled for Monday, October 25.

Sergei Furgal was arrested last summer. According to investigators, he organized two murders and an attempt on businessmen in the Far East in 2004-2005. In the months following his arrest, mass protests were held in Khabarovsk, demanding the governor’s release. Furgal pleaded not guilty and asked to have his case heard by a jury.
