In St. Petersburg the chief physician of the City Consultative and Diagnostic Center No. 1 Evgeny Popov was detained after the deaths of three patients.

Presumably, the patients died from the consequences of severe poisoning after gastroscopy. A possible cause is said to be barium metal poisoning.

Investigators believe the barium may have been counterfeit. According to investigators, a total of more than 20 people were injured during diagnostics at the hospital in January.
