The Thai authorities decided to rename the capital Bangkok.

From now on it will be called “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon”. The name is translated as “City of Angels Great Capital”, while Bangkok will remain as an unofficial name.

The capital of Thailand themselves have always been called “Krung Thep” by the Thais. The full name of the city is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest in the world: “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahintarayutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noopparat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchanivet Mahasatan Amon Piman Awatan Satit Saccathattiya Witsanukam Prasit”.

“The new registry has been sent to a special legal committee for review, at the end of which it will take effect”.
