Western Union, a cross-border money transfer service, announced the suspension of operations in Russia and the Republic of Belarus. The reason was the Russian special operation on the territory of Ukraine.
Western Union said that they joined the international community and expressed hope for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict.
Western Union service began operating in Russia in 1991. In the first half of 2021 revenues from Western Union remittances in Russia amounted to more than four billion rubles, net profit exceeded 800 million.
Earlier payment systems Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, American Express suspended their work in Russia.
