The trial of a captive Russian soldier accused of killing a Ukrainian civilian begins in Kiev.

The 21-year-old Shishmarin will be tried under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Violation of laws and customs of war.

According to the investigation, on February 28, 2022 in the village of Chupakhovka of Sumy region Sergeant Vadim Shishmarin shot a 62-year-old man in the head, who was riding a bicycle and talking on the phone.

The International Criminal Court is also investigating alleged war crimes.

Ukrainian authorities accuse the Russian military of committing numerous crimes, from killing civilians to looting. Ukrainian Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova said she is investigating more than 10,700 cases of war crimes in which more than 600 people are suspected, including Russian soldiers and civil servants.
