The British authorities have included in the sanctions list entrepreneurs Vladimir Potanin and Said Gutseriev, the governor of the Kemerovo region Sergey Tsivilev and his wife Anna Tsivileva – she is a cousin of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The updated list is published on the website of the government of the country.
The country's authorities explained their decision by the fact that Potanin, who owns Interros, is the second person in Russia in terms of capital. Supporting Putin, Potanin continues to grow rich: after the start of the war, he bought Rosbank and shares in Tinkoff Bank, the UK government said in a statement.
“We will use sanctions to weaken the Russian war machine. No one and nothing can avoid them, ”the message says.
The UK authorities also announced the sanctions that they will impose against Russian citizens and companies for supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and "in repression against the civilian population."
In total, the UK has imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 individuals and 100 legal entities from the Russian Federation. Sanctions were imposed on Alina Kabaeva, head of the board of directors of the National Media Group, Kabaeva's grandmother Anna Zatsepilina, Putin's ex-wife Lyudmila Ocheretnaya and his other relatives: Mikhail Putin, Igor Putin, Roman Putin and Mikhail Shelomov.
