Syria recognized the independence of the LDNR. This is the second UN member state after Russia to announce this

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recognized the independence of the "LPR" and "DPR". This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the department. Thus, Syria became the second state after Russia that is a member of the United Nations (UN) to recognize the republics.

“By embodying the common will and desire to improve relations in all areas, the Syrian Arab Republic has decided to recognize the independence and sovereignty of the ‘Luhansk People’s Republic’ and ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’,” the ministry said in a statement cited by the SANA news agency.

All other UN member states continue to recognize the territory controlled by the "DPR" and "LPR" as part of Ukraine.

The independence of the "LDNR" is also recognized by the partially recognized states of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
