In the Skovorodinsky district of Transbaikalia, a major accident occurred on the railway: 14 freight cars derailed on the Sgibeevo-Bolshaya Omutnaya section. The incident was reported by the local publication PriamurMedia and RIA Novosti . Due to the accident, Russian Railways were forced to block traffic on one of the most important transport routes between Russia and China – the Trans-Siberian Railway.
“According to preliminary information, 14 wagons of a freight train derailed on the Sgibeevo-Bolshaya Omutnaya section of the Trans-Baikal Railway. As a result of the incident, the dimension of the adjacent track was violated, the support of the contact network was damaged. The movement of trains on the site was temporarily suspended. There are no victims, there is no threat to the environment, ”the Russian Railways said in a statement. The causes of the incident are being established. The accident happened around 8 am Moscow time.
To eliminate the consequences of the accident, 330 employees of the line and a lot of equipment, which arrived from the stations Erofey Pavlovich, Skovorodino and Mogocha, were involved. The accident affected local and intercity passenger traffic: trains on the Moscow-Vladivostok route were delayed, the commuter train Yerofey Pavlovich-Skovorodino was canceled, and the train going in the opposite direction was changed to the final stop at Urusha station. Passengers of trains from Moscow are provided with additional products for the period of repair.
This is the second incident on the Trans-Siberian Railway involving freight trains: on June 11, 24 freight cars overturned on the Krasnoyarsk section of the road, the cause of the incident was not named.
The Trans-Siberian Railway is considered the largest railway line in the world, it is actively used for the supply of various goods between Russia and China, it connects the European part of Russia with the Far Eastern ports. After the imposition of sanctions on maritime transport, rail transport became one of the main channels for the supply of goods, but the capacity of the Far Eastern transport site is not enough for an operational “turn to the East,” which was recognized even by the government.
