The authorities of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic charged a citizen of Sweden with mercenarism. It is reported by TASS with reference to a source.
According to the DPR, he was at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol and surrendered. “During the interrogation, the Swede stated that he did not shoot, he did not participate in hostilities,” the source said. The name of the prisoner is not called.
On July 1, it became known that the "DPR" charged the British Dylan Healy and Andrew Hill with mercenarism, who fought on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
Andrew Hill was taken prisoner in April in the Mykolaiv region. He stated that he arrived at the war as a doctor, a source of RIA Novosti in the Russian security forcesinsisted that he was "involved in the destruction of the MT-LB armored personnel carrier of the RF Armed Forces, the killing of at least two Russian military and wounding three more."
On June 9, the “DPR” sentenced to death three foreign servicemen who took part in the war with Russia on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: two Britons – Aiden Eslin and Sean Pinner, and a Moroccan Saadoun Brahim.
The Russian Foreign Ministry does not consider Eslin and Pinner prisoners of war, said the representative of the department, Maria Zakharova. “Contrary to the statements of British officials, the mentioned citizens are not prisoners of war, but mercenaries. The mercenaries sent by the West to help the Kyiv nationalist regime are not combatants under international humanitarian law and do not have the right to the status of a prisoner of war, ”Zakharova argued.
Lawyer 21-year-old Moroccan Saadoun Dmitry Ershov told Lente.ru that he surrendered on March 12 in Volnovakha. According to him, Saadoun moved to Ukraine in 2019, and in 2021 signed a three-year contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and, on the advice of Eslin, ended up in the 36th Separate Marine Brigade. On April 27, Kommersant wrote about lawyers Pinner and Saadoun. The publication presented them as "the first and so far the only Russian lawyers who work in the DPR and LPR." Accordingto Mediazona , earlier references to their advocacy activities could not be found.
