A criminal case was opened against the author of documentary films and social activist Vsevolod Korolyov in St. Petersburg about “fakes” about the Russian army. After the searches, he was taken to the Vyborg department of the Investigative Committee. This is reported by the human rights project "Network Freedoms".
Korolyov is accused of disseminating “false information” about the actions of the Russian military in Ukraine under paragraph “e” of part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code. Korolev in his posts on Vkontakte wrote about the events in Bucha, Borodyanka and Donetsk. The investigation plans to petition for the placement of the activist in custody. Maria Zyryanova will defend Korolev in court.
130 days have passed since the law “on fakes” came into force. The Korolev case became the 70th under this article. In total, 8 cases of military “fakes” have already been opened in St. Petersburg during this period. Most of them are in Moscow – 15 criminal cases.
On July 8, the first court decision was issued in Moscow under the article on military “fakes”. The Mundep of the Krasnoselsky District, Alexei Gorinov, was sentenced to seven years in a penal colony. According to investigators, on March 15, during a meeting of the Council of Deputies, the politician made a number of statements "containing data about the RF Armed Forces that do not correspond to reality." Gorinov called the “special military operation” in Ukraine a “war” and talked about the deaths of Ukrainian children.
The law was submitted to the State Duma on March 2 and adopted 2 days later by Vladimir Putin's decree, as a result of which censorship was actually introduced in the field of coverage of the activities of the military. Punishment for "fakes" about the actions of the Russian army provides for criminal liability of up to 15 years in prison.
