Politician Leonid Gozman was detained and interrogated in Moscow in the case of non-notification of dual citizenship

Opposition politician Leonid Gozman was detained in Moscow and brought to the Investigative Committee. He himself announced this on his Facebook page.

“I kept thinking, why don’t they touch me? Touched! We are going with a wonderful lawyer Mikhail Biryukov to the investigative department. Called for a completely crazy case. Whether scare – leave, they say. Either they are luring them out – they are already suggesting to present something serious there. Okay, God won’t give it away, the pig won’t eat it.”

Gozman told The Insider that a criminal case was brought against him because of his second citizenship:

“A few years ago – 4 or 5 – my wife and I took Israeli citizenship. We were not going to move anywhere, just in case, for the sake of medical care. And it turns out that within 60 days it was necessary to notify the Ministry of Internal Affairs about this. And we did it not after 60 days, but after several months. And suddenly they pulled it out and opened a criminal case. I think they will give us a small fine. I interpret this as a message to me: "Boy, get in your mind and leave." But I'm not leaving just yet."

Gozman is the president of the Union of Right Forces, a right-wing liberal political party that existed in Russia from 1999-2008. In the spring of 2021, the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow fined him 20,000 rubles because of a rally in support of Alexei Navalny. In May 2022, the Ministry of Justice included Gozman in the list of "foreign agents".
