Ukraine accuses JPMorgan, HSBC, Citigroup and Crédit Agricole of war crimes over ties with Russia – FT

Ukrainian authorities have accused US banks JPMorgan and Citigroup and European banks HSBC and Crédit Agricole of war crimes over ties to Russia. This is reported by the Financial Times.

Economic adviser to Vladimir Zelensky, Oleg Ustenko, wrote a letter to bankers asking them to stop financing companies that trade in Russian oil and sell shares in Gazprom and Rosneft.

According to the Financial Times, in the letters, Ustenko accused banks of prolonging the war by providing loans to companies that supply Russian oil. He wrote that they would be excluded from participation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

HSBC and Crédit Agricole own shares in Gazprom and Rosneft. Citigroup provides loans to Lukoil and Vitol, which sells Russian oil. In addition, the investment fund Vitol owns stakes in Gazprom, Sberbank and Rosneft. Ustenko, in his letter, calls them one of the Kremlin's most important economic assets. JPMorgan also provides credit lines to Vitol.
