The Tretyakov Gallery temporarily transferred the icon of Andrei Rublev "Trinity" to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad, Mediazona writes , citing two museum employees.
The icon will hang in the Trinity Cathedral for two days. At this time there will be divine services dedicated to the 600th anniversary of finding the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
According to Mediazona, two months before the transfer of the icon, employees of the Tretyakov Gallery, restorers and art historians began a dispute with the Russian Orthodox Church: in their opinion, the transfer of the icon could have irreversible consequences for its condition.
The Russian Orthodox Church twice sent a letter to the museum with a request to transfer the icon for the time of worship on church holidays, but the Tretyakov Gallery refused. However, on July 12, a new document arrived at the museum with an order from Sergei Obryvalin, who coordinates the work of the department for the protection of cultural heritage: he allowed the Trinity to be issued to the Russian Orthodox Church "on an exceptional basis."
On May 24, according to Mediazona, a restoration council was held at the Tretyakov Gallery, at which experts came to the conclusion that it was impossible to transport the icon, since its safety depends on strict temperature restrictions and a certain humidity: such conditions can be created only within the walls of the museum.
On July 15, journalist Ksenia Korobeynikova wrote that the decision to transfer the icon was initiated by the presidential administration.
