Former UK Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak won the third round of the prime ministerial election. He was blamed for Johnson’s early departure

Former UK Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak won the third round of the British Prime Minister's election with 115 votes. It is reported by The Guardian.

According to the results of the third round, Deputy Tom Tugendhat dropped out of the race with 31 votes. Ex-secretary of defense and trade policy minister Penny Mordaunt (82) is second behind Sunak, Foreign Minister Liz Truss is third (71), and former Minister of Local Government and Communities Kemi Badenoch is fourth (58).

On Tuesday, July 19, the fourth round of voting will take place. The name of the new British prime minister is scheduled to be announced on September 5.

Earlier in July, the Financial Times reported that supporters of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who announced his resignation, would prevent former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak from taking the post of prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party. According to the publication, officials accuse Sunak of instigating Johnson's premature departure. More than 50 officials left the government after he and Health Minister Sajid Javid resigned. Two days later, Johnson announced that he was resigning.

The decision to resign was preceded by a series of departures of officials from the government. It began after MP Chris Pincher was appointed to a government post, who was accused of sexual harassment.
