President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Vasyl Malyuk as Acting Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
From January to March 2020, Malyuk served as Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the Central Directorate of the SBU. After that, he headed the department and stayed in office until the summer of 2021. On February 16, 2022, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, but already on February 28, Zelensky fired him and appointed him First Deputy Chairman of the SBU.
On July 17, Zelensky removed Ivan Bakanov, head of the Security Service of Ukraine, from his post. In the evening address, the President of Ukraine explained his decision by the fact that several dozen SBU employees were convicted of treason.
On the same day, Zelensky removed the country's Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova from office in accordance with the law "On the legal regime of martial law." The duties of the Prosecutor General are assigned to her deputy Oleksiy Symonenko.
