Russia dropped almost to the very bottom of the rating of “peace-loving” countries, leaving behind the Central African Republic and North Korea

Experts from the Institute for Peace and the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney have published the annual Global Peace Index 2022, which assesses the level of "peacefulness" of countries around the world, embodying the degree of safety of living in them.

This year, Russia has dropped from 154th place to 160th (out of 163) in the rating. Russia, together with Ukraine, showed the maximum deterioration in performance: last year Ukraine ranked 142nd, and now it has dropped to 153rd.

Iceland is again recognized as the most peaceful country, which has maintained its position in the ranking since 2008. It is followed by New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark and Austria.

Afghanistan was named the least peaceful country for the fifth consecutive year, followed by Yemen, Syria, Russia and South Sudan. North Korea ranks 152nd and the Central African Republic 155th.

The Global Peace Index 2022 notes that the global level of terrorism has decreased: in 2021, not a single terrorist attack was recorded in 70 countries. “This is the best result since 2008,” the authors of the study say.
