The European Union included in the seventh package of sanctions Sberbank, the Night Wolves biker club, the military and other persons involved in Russian aggression against Ukraine and disinformation. This was stated by the head of the EU foreign service, Josep Borrell, on Twitter.
The EU approved a new package of sanctions against Russia on 21 July. As part of the restrictions, an embargo on Russian gold is being established and controls on dual-use goods are being tightened. The document will be published in the official journal of the EU, after which it will enter into force.
Earlier, Borrell said that the foreign ministers of the EU countries agreed on a new package of sanctions against Russia: it includes 48 individuals, including one of the deputy prime ministers of the Russian government and several regional leaders. According to him, the sanctions will not stop the war in Ukraine, but should create a lot of economic problems for Russia. According to Nastoyashchee Vremya, with reference to a draft document that was handed over to the publication by a source in EU diplomatic circles, the following will be subject to sanctions: First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Andrei Belousov, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and two People's Artists of Russia – Sergei Bezrukov and Vladimir Mashkov for their support Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The European Commission proposed the seventh package of sanctions against Russia on July 15. Before that, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that it would not include restrictions on Russian gas imports. According to him, this is due to the fact that when introducing new sanctions, the rule must be respected, according to which they should have a greater impact on Russia than on the countries that impose them.
