Gemotest fined 60,000 rubles for leaking 300 GB of personal data

The Gemotest network of clinical diagnostic laboratories was fined 60,000 rubles for leaking 300 GB of personal customer data. The decision was made by the magistrate of the judicial district No. 287 of the Moscow district of Novogireevo.

The data leak occurred in early May. At that time, a database of millions of laboratory clients was put up for sale on the dark web. It contained their names, test results, home addresses and passport numbers. According to the seller of the database, in total, it contains data on 554 million orders.

“Judging by the data sample provided by the seller, this database was uploaded no earlier than 04/22/2022, which may indicate the presence of an open vulnerability so far,” wrote the Telegram channel of the DLBI information leak search service at the time.

After that, the head of information security at Gemotest, Ivan Osipov , told RIA Novosti that the company would conduct an internal investigation.

At the end of March, information about Yandex.Food users was leaked . The leaked data was published in the form of a map, on which the addresses of the service customers, their names and phone numbers were marked (more than 58 thousand in total). The leak itself happened on March 1st. After that, Yandex.Food users filed a class action lawsuit with the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow. They demanded to pay them moral compensation in the amount of 100 thousand rubles for each.
