The case of the attempt on the life of singer Abraham Russo, in which Telman Ismailov is accused, was sent to court

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation approved the indictment and sent to the Khamovniki court the case of the attempt on the life of the singer Abraham Russo in 2006, which, according to investigators, was ordered by the former owner of the Cherkizovsky market, Telman Ismailov. It is reported by Interfax. The indictment was upheld against Mikhail Demkin, Vitaly Dzhura, Aleksey Tryasnikov and Roman Fetisov.

According to investigators, in 2006, Ismailov, due to personal hostility towards Rousseau, who refused his patronage, decided to kill him. He instructed the guard Fetisov to find the perpetrators. He hired Demkin, Dzhura and Tryasnikov.

On August 19, 2006, near a house on Plyushchikha in Moscow, Demkin shot Russo at least six times. The singer received four wounds in the thigh. Demkin threw away his weapon and fled.

“Despite the fact that the defendants in the criminal case initially came to the attention of operational officers, the crime remained unsolved for a long time due to the lack of sufficient evidence. Only in 2020 was it possible to obtain evidence of Demkin's involvement in the crime, and then to identify his accomplices, ”the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

At the same time, Demkin himself died in 2014, and his daughter represents his interests in court.

The investigation of the criminal case against the organizer of the crime, Ismailov, who is on the international wanted list, continues.

Earlier, the Presnensky Court of Moscow issued a verdict in absentia against Zaur Mardanov (nephew of businessman Telman Ismailov), one of the defendants in the Russo kidnapping case. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. At the same time, Mardanov was released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution.

Telman Ismailov has been on the international wanted list since 2018. The Investigative Committee accuses him in absentia of the attempt on Russo and of organizing two more murders.

On October 1, 2021, Ismailov was detained in Montenegro at the request of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office and arrested for the period of consideration of the extradition case. A week later, the relevant papers arrived from Moscow to Podgorica, but the proceedings on them never began, since the country's authorities satisfied Ismailov's earlier request for political asylum.
