The author of denunciations of opposition media Alexander Ionov fell under US sanctions

A former member of the Public Monitoring Commission (POC) of Moscow, the author of denunciations of oppositional Russian media, Alexander Ionov, fell under US sanctions. This is stated on the website of the US Treasury.

Also, the Anti-Globalization Movement, the founder of which he is, and the Ionov Transcontinental LLC associated with it, fell under the sanctions.

Alexander Ionov is a former member of the PMC of Moscow (from 2016 to 2019), founder of the Anti-Globalization Movement, supporter of Anti-Maidan, member of the Public Council of the Federal Penitentiary Service. It was he who was the author of denunciations against the Meduza and Important Stories publications, after which they were recognized as "foreign agents."

Last August, Ionov filed a lawsuit against Novaya Gazeta, demanding that the information about him in the article “Shakespeare and Schubert undermine Russia” be refuted. This material reported on the connections of the Anti-Globalization Movement of Russia, which he created, with foreign organizations that received funding in the United States. Because of the same article, Ionov complained about Novaya Gazeta to the Investigative Committee, demanding that a criminal case be opened for libel. He also promised to demand that the publication be recognized as a "foreign agent." In February 2022, the Moscow Basmanny Court dismissed Ionov's claim against Novaya Gazeta.
