The Lyublinsky District Court of Moscow found Vladimir Vorontsov, founder of the Police Ombudsman public website, guilty in a case of extortion, making pornography and insulting a government official.
On July 18, the prosecutor asked Vorontsov for 6 years in prison to be served in a penal colony of general regime and the deprivation of the rank of “police major”. They also want to deprive Vorontsov of the right to engage in activities related to the administration of sites, pages and other resources for 10 years.
Vorontsov himself does not admit guilt and considers the case initiated against him to be revenge for his activities as the founder of the Police Ombudsman project, which talks about violations of the labor rights of security forces and criticizes the existing police system.
In October 2021, it became known that Vorontsov's supporters had deceived the investigation in order to reveal falsifications in his case.
On July 31, three of his associates were arrested in Moscow, who, according to the court, tried to prove with the help of false testimony that the case against Vorontsov was fabricated.
