After the news about the ban of taking TOEFL exam for Russians was published our edition received a request from ETS representative with a request to clarify the situation.
On the basis of the received letter the editorial board made the following conclusions:
1. The wording on the TOEFL registration platform about OFAC restrictions in Russia and Belarus was supposed to mean that OFAC restrictions affect some testing operations in those countries (for example, third-party vendors such as financial institutions, transportation companies, etc.).
2. Beginning August 4, ETS is updating the policy adopted in March 2022 and will now allow test takers in Russia to register for the TOEFL iBT Home Edition, TOEFL Essentials and GRE Home Test.
Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, students in Russia are still unable to take these tests at testing centers in the country. Students who prefer to take the exams in person can take them in other countries or regions
