Former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova has been appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Switzerland. This was announced by the People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
This information was also confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba. “Yes, I have signed a submission for the appointment of Ms. Venediktova as Ambassador to Switzerland,” he said in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to him , the selection process was very thorough, and the idea itself was born “in a circle of several people”:
“It is absolutely normal when we bring people from outside into the system, but always with competencies that will allow them to effectively perform the functions of an ambassador. I believe that Venediktova has these competencies. Her work with international partners in recent months has shown that she can prove herself on the international track.”
On July 17, Volodymyr Zelensky removed Venediktova from the post of the country's Prosecutor General in accordance with the law "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law". The duties of the Prosecutor General are assigned to her deputy Alexei Simonenko. Venediktova worked in her post for a little over two years.
