A fire broke out in Taiwan during an artillery exercise announced by both Taiwan and the Chinese People's Liberation Army near the island following a visit from US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It is reported by Taiwan News.

The forest caught fire, the flames quickly spread, firefighters had to go several times to fetch water. The publication clarifies that the fire has already been extinguished, the cause of the fire has not yet been officially announced. Video of the fire has been posted online.

Earlier, China announced the imposition of sanctions against Pelosi, who visited Taiwan, becoming the highest-ranking American politician to fly to the island in the last 25 years. In addition, China has begun imposing trade restrictions and sanctions against Taiwan itself. Imports from the island of lemons, grapefruits and oranges were suspended, as well as two types of fish – frozen mackerel and hairtails. Disciplinary action was also taken against the Taiwan Democracy Foundation and the Foundation for International Cooperation and Development.

Following Pelosi's visit, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) began a massive live-fire military exercise in six areas around Taiwan. For the duration of the exercise, China has restricted flights to the island, suspended the supply of sand and banned some imports of Taiwanese products, including tea, dried fruits, honey, cocoa beans and vegetables.
