Taiwan authorities say Chinese military is rehearsing an attack on the island

Taiwan authorities said that Chinese warships and aircraft were rehearsing an attack on the island. They claim it is part of Beijing's response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan, this happened on Saturday, during the military exercises of the PRC. The exercise involved 20 Chinese military aircraft and 14 ships. The island's authorities said 14 planes crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which is considered the line of demarcation between Taiwan and China.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has launched a massive live-fire military exercise in six areas around Taiwan following Pelosi's visit. For the duration of the exercise, China has restricted flights to the island, suspended sand supplies, banned some imports of Taiwanese products, and imposed trade restrictions and sanctions against the island.

China has also imposed sanctions on Pelosi. She became a high-ranking US official subject to Chinese restrictions. The same measures were introduced against the closest relatives of the politician.
