The authorities of the “LPR” admit that I will not restore the city of Popasnaya, which was almost completely destroyed during the war. This was announced by the head of the "LNR" Leonid Pasechnik.
“Perhaps we will not restore Popasnaya, because there is no particular point. The city is really destroyed almost completely. But once again, the final decision has not been made,” he said.
Popasnaya has been under the control of the Russian military since May 9. The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, was the first to report the capture of the city. Shortly before this, Aleksey Arestovich, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that there was nothing to take in Popasna. Volodymyr Zelensky compared the city to the Nazi-destroyed Czech village of Lidice, saying that "not even ashes remained" of the city.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, as of January 1, 2022, 19,199 people lived in Popasna.
