The Russian army lost a lot of tanks because it could not use dynamic protection – British intelligence

The severe deterioration of Russian tanks used in the war in Ukraine is probably due to the fact that Russia was unable to install dynamic armor on them. British intelligence writes about this in its daily report.

When used correctly, ERA reduces the effectiveness of incoming projectiles before they hit the tank. According to British intelligence, problems with it are not new to the Russian army. The same situation was during the First Chechen War in 1994.

“The point is in the very design of the tank, it has weak protection in the upper hemisphere. This has been known for several decades, but nothing can be done about it. An attempt to redesign the tank is the T-14 Armata, but it cannot be considered successful, ”said military expert Pavel Luzin in a conversation with The Insider.

The summary says that these problems may be due to the fact that many Russian tankers have insufficient training. Because of this, it is likely that common cases of detachment of the tank turret occur, which are well documented by eyewitnesses on video.

According to British intelligence, the inability of the commanders of the Russian army to ensure the observance of combat discipline, including the correct use of dynamic protection, has become the reason for the low effectiveness of the Russian troops.
