The courts in Russia have considered about 3,500 cases under the article on “discrediting the Armed Forces” (Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Lawyer Pavel Chikov reported about such statistics in his Telegram channel.
“There are 3,500 potential defendants in a criminal case in Russia, like Yevgeny Roizman,” he wrote.
According to him, in almost all cases the defendants were found guilty. Repeated anti-war statements for them means criminal prosecution under Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code.
On August 24, the former mayor of Yekaterinburg, Yevgeny Roizman, was detained as part of a criminal case on “discrediting the Russian army.” The video of the arrest was published by Mash. Searches were carried out not only in Roizman's apartment, but also in the Museum of the Nevyansk Icon, as well as in the office of the Evgeny Roizman Foundation. Since the beginning of the year, Roizman has been fined three times for “discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” in social networks for a total of 150,000 rubles.
According to Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, for "discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" you can get a fine of up to 100 thousand rubles. If Article 20.3.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“calls for sanctions”) is applied, the fine can reach 50,000 rubles.
There are also criminal “anti-war” articles, for example, article 280.3 of the Criminal Code (“discrediting the army”) provides for up to 5 years in prison, 280.4 of the Criminal Code (“calls for sanctions”) – up to 7 years. Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code (“dissemination of knowingly false information about the Armed Forces”) – up to 15 years in prison.
