The governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, said that Yevgeny Roizman, who was detained for "discrediting the Russian army," "deserves justice and respect." He also expressed hope that the museum opened by Roizman would continue its work in Yekaterinburg.
“I have always had a difficult relationship with Evgeny Roizman. We were (and are) political opponents, but the law is the law: like any person, he deserves justice and respect. I hope he gets them. And of course, I can’t help but say about the Museum of the Nevyansk Icon , which he created. I hope that this museum will be saved and it will work.”
On August 24, Roizman was detained as part of a criminal case on “discrediting the Russian army.” The video of the arrest was published by Mash. Searches were carried out not only in Roizman's apartment, but also in the Museum of the Nevyansk Icon, as well as in the office of the Evgeny Roizman Foundation. Since the beginning of the year, Roizman has been fined three times for “discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” in social networks for a total of 150,000 rubles.
Evgeny Kuyvashev has been heading the Sverdlovsk region since 2021, he is also the secretary of the Sverdlovsk regional branch of United Russia. Since July 2022, Kuyvashev has been on the UK sanctions list for supporting the war in Ukraine.
Kuyvashev is also known for his polemics with propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, who called Yekaterinburg "the center of a vile liberota." In particular, Solovyov criticized Yekaterinburg after students in Lyceum No. 12 danced, in his words, “a depraved LGBT dance.”
