Serena Williams lost the last tournament of her career

American tennis player Serena Williams lost the tournament in the third round of the US Open, after which she promised to end her career.

Australian Ayla Tomlyanovic won with a score of 5:7, 7:6, 1:6.

After the match, Williams answered the question of whether she would reconsider her decision to end her career after leaving the US Open, she is quoted by Sport.ru.

“I don’t think so, but you can never be sure of something either.”

40-year-old Williams is considered one of the greatest tennis players in history. During her career, she won 23 Grand Slam tournaments (second only to Australian Margaret Court, who has 24 wins) and 73 WTA tournaments. Williams is also a four-time Olympic gold medalist.

Earlier it was reported that the United States Tennis Association (USTA) will allow selected athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2022 US Open, but under a neutral flag. Before that, Russian athletes were suspended from Wimbledon and other tournaments in the UK due to the war in Ukraine. In early May, the International Tennis Federation officially suspended the membership of the Russian and Belarusian tennis federations (ITF). Tennis players can only act as neutral athletes.
