The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, after visiting the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, said that there are holes and damage due to shelling in the walls of the station buildings, physical integrity is a concern, as hostilities continue in Ukraine. He is quoted by TASS.
“The first thing (what worries me) is the physical integrity (ZAES). Here I will not go into details, but I will only note that, obviously, in general, in this region, in this part of Ukraine, intense hostilities are observed. Military activity is on the rise in this part of the country. And that worries me a lot."
Grossi also added that a significant part of the systems responsible for ensuring the safety of the station are functioning relatively well, but there have been interruptions. Some problems are associated with physical damage to cables, connections and certain systems, they have not yet been completely restored, the head of the IAEA noted.
“My team and I were able to see the holes in the walls and the damage from the shelling. This means that the physical integrity of the object was violated not once, but several times.”
Earlier, adviser to the director general of Rosatom, Renat Karchaa, explained to the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, why the rocket that fell in Energodar looks like it came from the occupied territory. According to him, the thing is that the projectile, landing, makes a 180 ° turn. Some missiles do turn in the air, such as air defense missiles. However, the video shows a multiple rocket launcher that flies straight and lands in the direction of flight.
The IAEA delegation arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP on September 1. It consists of experts from Poland, Lithuania, China, France and countries other than Russia and the USA. The bulk of the delegation left the same day. The remaining experts remained at the station to assess the operation of the equipment and to inspect the working conditions of the station's employees. The head of the IAEA, Grossi, said that the mission received key information about the situation at the plant in a few hours at the Zaporizhzhya NPP, he was quoted by TASS. He denies that the invaders of the station are manipulating the experts and could not show them everything they needed at the ZNPP.
