Turchak proposed to hold a referendum on the accession of the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation on National Unity Day

Secretary General of United Russia, Senator Andrey Turchak, said that referendums on the inclusion of the occupied territories in the Russian Federation "will be right and symbolic to be held on National Unity Day on November 4."

On how the referendums are planned to be held, The Insider wrote on August 31. Documents that were at the disposal of the publication testify to the preparation of such events. They are talking not only about the “LDNR”, but also about the territories seized after February 24th. The government draft has already outlined the target figures for the results of the vote and a plan to "consolidate the winning result." At the same time, the Kremlin openly admits that the CEC of Russia and Belarus will decide the fate of Ukrainians and their territory.

Holding such a referendum on National Unity Day is truly symbolic. This holiday was invented in 2005, in fact, as a replacement for the October Revolution Day, which was celebrated on November 7th. In recent years, Vladimir Putin has been increasingly repeating the thesis that Russia needs evolution, not revolution, and declares that the “quota for revolutions” in the Russian Federation has been exhausted. Therefore, the events of the 17th century and the celebration of the expulsion of the Polish interventionists from Moscow are perhaps much closer to the current leadership of the country than the holiday in honor of the overthrow of the current government.
