Playwright Durnenkov and theater critic Davydova were charged under an article on “discrediting the army”

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow registered two administrative cases under the article on “discrediting” the Russian army against M. Davydova and M. E. Durnenkov.

The details of the case are unknown, however, as human rights activists recall, in April Durnenkov wrote a post criticizing the Russian army, after which the chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia, Alexander Kalyagin, called for him to be expelled from the union, and several Russian theaters canceled performances based on his plays.

Davydova wrote a petition on February 24 calling for an "immediate end to hostilities" in Ukraine. After a while, the letter Z was painted on the door of her apartment with white paint.

After these events and the threats received, both Davydova and Kalyagin decided to leave Russia.

Mikhail Durnenkov is a Russian playwright, screenwriter, teacher, one of the participants in the New Drama movement, art director of the Lyubimovka festival, laureate of the Golden Mask Award in 2019.

Marina Davydova is a theater expert and theater critic, Ph.D. in art history.
