The EU Council finally decided to cancel the simplified visa regime for Russians

The Council of the European Union finally approved the decision to stop the simplified visa regime for Russians. It will take effect September 12.

“This decision will lead to an increase in the visa fee from 35 to 80 euros, the need to provide additional documentary evidence, an increase in the time for issuing a visa and tightening the rules for issuing multiple visas,” the Council said in a statement.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, some EU countries have stopped issuing visas to Russian citizens, among them the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Denmark and the Netherlands have stopped issuing short-stay visas. Finland announced that from September 1, it will reduce the issuance of tourist visas to Russians by ten times.

Earlier today it became known that Latvia restricts the entry of Russian citizens with Schengen visas into the country.
