The authorities of Tuva said that school lunches have risen in price by a third, and now the region has no money for them. The local Ministry of Education asked the federal center to allocate additional finances for food for students, at least 50 million rubles are missing, writes Taiga.Info.
The average cost of a one-time daily meal for primary school students in the 2021-2022 academic year was approved by the regional government in the amount of 64.56 rubles. However, the price of groceries has recently risen, and the real cost of school lunches is now 85 rubles per person per day. And until the end of the year, the funding allocated for these purposes may not be enough, they say in the republican government.
Recall that in terms of the ratio of income to the cost of a basket of goods and services, the home region of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu is the poorest among Russian regions. This is the only region where the ratio of income to the value of the basket is less than one, that is, the average level of income is not enough to provide a minimum set of goods and services. A third of the population lives below the poverty line, says Nikolai Petrov, a Russian political scientist and political geographer. In January 2022, massive one-man pickets were held in the poorest region of Russia against price increases.
Tuva is a "record holder" not only in the ranking of the poorest regions of the country. Per capita mortality rates here, as well as in Buryatia, are among the highest in Russia since the start of the war in Ukraine. Many young people see contract military service as the only way out of poverty. The average salary in Tuva is 10-15 thousand rubles ($170-260).
We also recall that the cost of one Kalibr rocket is $5-6.5 million. This is six subsidies for meals requested by the Tuvan government from Moscow.
