Energoatom: Zaporozhye NPP is completely de-energized

Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is completely de-energized. Energoatom reports about it.

The statement of the Ukrainian company says that the last – the 6th – power unit was disconnected from the network on the night of September 10-11, at 3:41. Now it is being prepared for cooling and transfer to a cold state.

Energoatom points out that for the last three days the 6th power unit has been operating in island mode, feeding only its own needs at a critically low power level (from 114 to 140 MW). The reason for these actions is the damage on the entire communication line of the Zaporozhye NPP with the energy system of Ukraine, inflicted by the Russian military.

The decision to transfer the power unit to a cold state is due to the fact that on the evening of September 10, after the resumption of operation of one of the damaged lines, ZNPP was able to feed its needs from the energy system of Ukraine.

Energoatom also writes that in the event of repeated damage to communication lines, the station's own needs will be powered by diesel generators. The term of their work is limited by the volume of fuel and technological resources.

On September 2, the ZNPP connection with the last remaining operating 750 kV line was disconnected. A reserve line of 330 kV was used to supply electricity from ZNPP to the grid. It was turned off on September 5 to put out the fire, the line itself was not damaged. On September 6, the capacity of the sixth power unit was reduced to 150 MW. A source at the station told The Insider that the reduction in power output is bad for the turbine.
