St. Petersburg Higher School of Economics did not renew the contract with sociologist Yasaveev after searches at his and other Idel authors’ premises.Realities

The St. Petersburg branch of the Higher School of Economics "did not agree" further work with the sociologist Iskender Yasaveev. The sociologist connects this with the searches that took place on August 17 at his and his colleagues from Idel.Realii (Radio Liberty project).

Yasaveev taught remotely at the National Research University Higher School of Economics for the last two years and provided scientific guidance to bachelors and masters.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be teaching. It’s hard not to see a direct connection between the searches at my and my colleagues’ place in Kazan on August 17 and the refusal of the leadership of the St. Petersburg HSE campus to sign documents on my admission,” Yasaveev wrote on his Facebook page.

The security forces came to Yasaveyev's apartment in Kazan on the morning of August 17. During the search, his mobile phones were confiscated from him and his family members. After the search, he was taken to the Investigative Committee for interrogation. The publication linked the search to Yasaveev's columns.

On the same day, the homes of six more journalists were searched in Kazan. Later it became known that the investigative actions were connected with the criminal case "on justifying terrorism and violence against government officials." The case was initiated because of a video published on YouTube, in which the Russian ambassador in Warsaw is doused with red paint on May 9.
