Construction of a four-meter fence begins on the Latvian-Belarusian border

Latvia has begun construction of a 173-kilometer fence on the border with Belarus. According to the plan, construction is expected to be completed in 2024, writes Delfi.

The fence reaches about 4 meters in height, and barbed wire is stretched on top.

As the newspaper writes, the fence is intended "to prevent illegal entry into the EU of migrants from Belarus under the regime of its self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko."

In Latvia, they note that recently the flow of illegal migration through Belarus to the country has subsided. According to local border guards, in August there were 300 attempts to illegally cross the border, in September – 150.
