Polish President Andrzej Duda said that it is necessary to seek reparations from Russia for World War II

Polish President Andrzej Duda called for the republic to demand reparations from Russia for World War II. He stated this in an interview with Wprost.

Answering the question why the Polish authorities are demanding reparations from Germany, not seeking them from Russia, Duda said:

“Germany started World War II and attacked Poland… Of course, Russia later joined this war, so I think we should also seek reparations from Russia.”

He clarified that he sees no reason for the authorities not to demand reparations from the Russian Federation at the next stage.

Duda also added that no one covered the losses incurred by Poland during the war, which, according to him, amount to 6.2 billion zlotys. Many cities in Poland were successfully rebuilt, but Warsaw was "irrevocably destroyed by the Germans," the president notes.

“It was a systematic, brutal demolition of the city. If anyone today says that we are unnecessarily causing a conflict by demanding reparations, let him ask the Germans why they caused this conflict in 1939.

The day before, the Polish Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the German government to take political, historical, legal and financial responsibility for the harm caused to Poland and its citizens as a result of the Second World War. Poland intends to seek reparations from Germany for 1.3 trillion euros. The deputies stated that the country had never received financial compensation and compensation for material and non-material losses suffered by the state during the war "as a result of the aggression of the USSR." MP Arkadiusz Mularczyk said that these losses need to be calculated and assessed by experts, and a report may be prepared in the future.
