Roger Federer announces his retirement

Former world number one, 20-time Grand Slam winner, 41-year-old tennis player Roger Federer has announced his retirement. The statement was published on his Twitter page.

The Swiss thanked his family, team, sponsors and fans for their support. Federer also mentioned that he made 1,500 appearances in his 24-year career.

At the end of October, he should play the last match at the Laver Cup in London.

On account of his 20 victories in Grand Slam tournaments in singles and a victory at the 2008 Olympics in pairs. The Swiss tennis player has won 111 ATP tournaments and has been ranked No. 1 for 310 weeks, 237 of them in a row, which remains the current record.

In early September, 40-year-old American tennis player Serena Williams lost the tournament in the third round of the US Open, after which she promised to end her career. At the end of the match, Williams answered the question of whether she would reconsider her decision to end her career after being eliminated from the US Open: “I don’t think so, but you can never be sure of something.”
