Russia confiscated all the property of the daughter of the first President of Uzbekistan Gulnara Karimova

All property of the eldest daughter of the first President of Uzbekistan Gulnara Karimova was arrested in Russia. According to Mash, among those confiscated is a house for about 200 million rubles in a village guarded by the FSO. Senators, show business stars, as well as Elena Baturina and businessman Platon Lebedev have houses in the same village. In addition, a mansion in the Diplomat cottage settlement in Gorki-2, Odintsovo district, was confiscated.

On September 13, a Russian court confiscated six of Karimova's Moscow apartments, TASS reported . According to the Deputy Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan, Muzraf Ikramov, the proceeds from the sale of apartments confiscated by the court will be divided equally between Moscow and Tashkent.

Now 50-year-old Karimova is serving time in an Uzbek penal colony. In March 2020, the court sentenced her to 13 years and 4 months in prison on charges of organizing a criminal community, extortion, embezzlement and money laundering. This is the third sentence against Karimova. The term of the punishment imposed by the court includes the terms served by Karimova on the first two sentences.

Recall that Karimova was arrested in July 2017. She was charged with fraud, concealment of foreign currency, violation of customs laws, violation of the rules of trade or provision of services, forgery of documents and legalization of proceeds from crime, as well as organizing a criminal community.

According to the investigation, the criminal group she created hid almost $1.4 billion, 63.5 million euros, more than 27 million pounds sterling and 18.5 million Swiss francs in different countries. The money and property of the criminal group are located in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and Latvia.

Earlier, Uzbekistan entered into an agreement with Switzerland to return $131 million that the Swiss authorities confiscated from Karimova. The agreement stipulates the principles of a refund. Among them are the use of funds to “improve the life of the Uzbek people”, investing in sustainable development projects in Uzbekistan, and monitoring the spending of funds.
