In Vladivostok, a local resident Dmitry Kulikov is accused of treason. His apartment was searched, the report states that the reason was the transfer of a photograph of a local combined heat and power plant (CHP) to Ukrainian intelligence. This was reported by OVD-Info with reference to a relative of Kulikov.
According to her, Kulikov opposed the current government and the war unleashed by it in Ukraine. Under the article on treason, Kulikov can receive up to 20 years in prison for photographing a thermal power plant.
Recall that from the extreme eastern point of Ukraine to Vladivostok – over 6,000 kilometers.
Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “High treason” has become another repressive lever since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. You can become a defendant in the case, in particular, for a donation in favor of the Ukrainians.
In September, the FSB detained an employee of a defense plant in the Moscow region for treason: he "handed over photographs of fragments of drawings of parts of military aviation equipment" to an employee of the Odessa Aviation Plant
In August, the FSB issued a “warning” to a student from St. Petersburg about treason for trying to call a Ukrainian number. “A student of the military department of one of the St. Petersburg universities, having access to state secrets, tried to get in touch with the special services of Ukraine in order to help Ukrainian volunteer associations, an official warning was announced to him so that he would not reach treason,” the FSB said.
The terms under the article on treason are among the most severe in the Criminal Code. For example, journalist Ivan Safronov was sent to a colony for 22 years, despite the fact that the limit under the article is 20 years. To increase the term, he was charged with two episodes. According to the indictment published by Proekt in August, Safronov's case is based solely on assumptions: none of the "witnesses" knows anything about the "crimes" of the journalist. And almost all the information that he allegedly passed on and which is considered "state secret" is in the public domain. Ivan Safronov's lawyer Dmitry Talantov faces up to 15 years in prison. He is charged with spreading fakes based on political hatred or enmity and inciting hatred or enmity by a person using his official position.
