Taiwan did not extend the visa-free regime with Russia, introduced in 2018. This was reported by Focus Taiwan with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan.
Thus, now Russians will need a visa to travel to the island. Russia, as well as Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines, were part of Taiwan's pilot visa waiver program. Since 2018, it has been extended several times, but in the last extension, Russia was excluded from the program.
Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines are still part of the program. Taiwan extended the visa-free regime with them until July 31, 2023. It is aimed at developing tourism and bilateral trade relations.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, some EU countries have stopped issuing visas to Russian citizens: the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have joined the restrictions. Denmark and the Netherlands have stopped issuing short-stay visas. Finland has reduced the issuance of tourist visas to Russians. Switzerland has suspended the simplified visa regime with Russia.
