Greater Tehran police chief Sardar Hussein Rahimi called the death of 22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini, who died after being detained by the vice police due to her lack of a hijab, an accident.
“Cowardly accusations have been leveled against the police. We will wait for the Day of Judgment, but we cannot stop working on security. There was no negligence on the part of the police, not even a slight oversight. All the words published on the Internet about the cause of death are pure lies, ”he said (quoted by FARS).
Amini was a human rights activist who fought for women's rights. On September 13, she was detained by the vice police in Tehran. It was reported that the official reason for the detention was a violation of the Islamic dress code – Amini was on the street without a hijab. After that, according to eyewitnesses, the police beat her in a paddy wagon. As a result, the girl fell into a coma and died on Friday, September 16.
The Tehran police themselves claim that Amini suddenly developed heart problems. However, the activist's relatives refute their words and say that the girl was completely healthy and did not suffer from any heart disease.
After the murder of Amini, hundreds of girls took to the streets of Iran, removing their hijabs in protest against police brutality.
