On the night of September 18-19, the Russian military fired rockets at the industrial zone of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant (YNPP). This was reported by the Ukrainian state nuclear enterprise Energoatom.
As stated in the message in his Telegram channel, a powerful explosion occurred just 300 meters from the reactors of the South Nuclear Power Plant. The shock wave damaged the station building and broke more than 100 windows. As a result, one of the hydroelectric units of the Aleksandrovskaya HPP, which is part of the South Ukrainian Energy Complex, was turned off, as well as three high-voltage power lines.
There were no casualties among the station staff. All three power units of the South NPP are operating normally.
The second half of September was marked for Ukraine by a counteroffensive and subsequent power outages. So, as a result of Russian strikes on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine on September 11, power went out in several regions of Ukraine at once, and on September 12 – in Kharkiv. Oleg Savitsky, climate and energy policy expert and Stand With Ukraine manager, told The Insider what Russia is trying to show and prove with these shellings.
