The bill on equating the St. George ribbon to the symbols of military glory was adopted by the State Duma in the first reading. Thus, now a person convicted of damaging the tape can now be fined up to 5 million rubles and sent to a colony for up to 5 years for a legal entity and up to 3 years for an individual.
The same acts committed by a group of persons by prior agreement or on the Internet are punishable by a fine of 2 to 5 million rubles or imprisonment for up to 5 years.
At the same time, the law does not stipulate in any way the methods of “public defilement”, for which punishment will follow – only the condition of publicity is stipulated. Whether a torn tape that has fallen into the mud, tied to a bag or a car antenna can be considered defilement is not reported.
