Latvian Foreign Ministry refuses to review visa decision for Russians amid mobilization news

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said that Latvia would not issue humanitarian visas to Russians amid news of mobilization in the Russian Federation.

“For security reasons, Latvia will not issue humanitarian or other types of visas to Russian citizens who evade mobilization, and will not change the border crossing restrictions for Russian citizens with Schengen visas introduced on September 19,” the head of the Latvian Foreign Ministry said.

On September 21, Putin addressed the Russians and announced the start of mobilization. The decree was published on the Kremlin website.

Earlier, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia decided to restrict the entry of Russian citizens with Schengen visas into the country. Before that, the EU supported a complete halt to the visa facilitation agreement for Russians from 12 September.
