A message appeared on the official website of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Russia warning citizens of the country who are in Russia that participation in a foreign war provides for criminal punishment.
Thus, Kyrgyzstan reacted to the Russian law on the simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship for labor migrants who will take part in the war.
“The Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Russian Federation warns citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic temporarily residing on the territory of the Russian Federation from participating in armed conflicts or hostilities on the territory of foreign states for which criminal liability has been established,” the message says.
The embassy said that the punishment under the article for the participation of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in hostilities on the territory of foreign states provides for up to 10 years in prison.
If a citizen of Kyrgyzstan in Russia is offered to go to war, he should immediately contact the embassy. According to the Kyrgyz authorities, almost 225,000 people left to work in Russia in 2022.
On September 20, the Moscow authorities offered migrants to go to war in Ukraine in order to make it easier for them to obtain Russian citizenship. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the infrastructure provided by the authorities "to assist the Ministry of Defense in organizing the entry of foreigners into military service" would be located directly at the Sakharovo migration center.
The law on simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship was adopted by the State Duma on September 20 in the second and third readings. The document regulates extremely simple conditions for obtaining citizenship by foreigners who have signed a one-year contract for service in the Russian army. The war in Ukraine is presented by the Russian authorities as an opportunity to obtain a passport "without a long wait and other bureaucratic obstacles."
Prior to the adoption of this law, in order to obtain Russian citizenship in a simplified manner, foreigners had to serve in the Russian Armed Forces under a contract for at least three years.
