The United States will impose new sanctions against Russia after the “referenda”

The United States will announce new sanctions against Russia in the coming days. This is Washington's response to the holding of "referendums" by the Russian authorities in the occupied territories of Ukraine. This was stated by Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan in an interview with NBC, released on Sunday, September 25.

"The G7 leaders, in a statement Friday after [the referendums] began, confirmed that there will be consequences, in particular additional enhanced sanctions, including sanctions against entities and companies outside of Russia that support the referendums," Sullivan said. – You will see it in the coming days, the US will make further announcements. This will only redouble our efforts to provide Ukraine with weapons and military equipment.”

The US authorities will continue to facilitate the supply of Soviet-era tanks from other NATO countries, as well as other weapons, to Ukraine, Sullivan concluded.

The day before, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that "the United States will never recognize these territories" in which Russia decided to hold fictitious referendums on joining the Russian Federation, "nothing but part of Ukraine, because they belong to the people of Ukraine" .

Official Kyiv and the West immediately condemned the referenda organized by the Kremlin as a "rigged vote", the result of which is already predetermined by Moscow.
